Meetings

After checking with the Village Hall management, we are ready to start using the hall again for our meetings. The usual 2nd Wednesday night of the month is still set aside for us. We will need to keep monitoring the situation but feel we should try to get back to holding meetings. To start with the management of the hall ask that we stick to the system that they are putting in place for people visiting the hall. Face masks should be worn when people enter the building but can be removed once seated, hand sanitising gel will be available around the hall, and initially the kitchen will not be in use. You can bring your own refreshments if you  wish. We feel that this is a sensible way of starting.

We plan to have our first meeting in October which would give us three meetings for this year. It does not feel sensible to invite guest speakers yet and the plan will be –

October 13th  A members sales evening, plus a presentation by Chris and Jean Barker. We  visited RHS Wisley Garden in August for our first RHS Orchid Committee meeting and also had a tour of the  greenhouses. In September we were at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Not too many orchids at this time of year, but the Eric Young Orchid Foundation had some spectacular exhibits, and there were plenty of interesting plants at the show.

November 10th Probably a second members sales evening plus David Arkley has kindly put together a Power Point presentation -  “A Year in the Alps” with lots of images of wild orchids, alpine flowers, and great scenery.

December 8th We will see how the rest of the year develops but we plan for a big table display and some sort of Christmas social, even if the kitchen is out of use. It could also include your entries for the BOC photographic competition.

Shows 2022

February 12th & 13th A pre-Valentine’s Day Show at Strikes Garden Centre, Stokesley.

June 17th - 19th Malvern International Orchid Show.

We are looking for an alternative venue for our usual Raby Castle Show; major works in the castle gardens and no greenhouse. We do expect to be back at the Josephine Butler College in early September for our Durham Show but the date has not been fixed yet.

Please return for further dates and informatin in the coming months.
